Heren 1 is het seizoen goed begonnen en boekte afgelopen weekend alweer de derde zege! En ook Heren 2 pakte de eerste overwinning. Herman en Itay doen verslag.
Heren 1
Heren 1 zorgt weer voor top-amusement.
Het “Lebo-busje” werd op bekwame wijze bestuurd door Theo, en bereikte het stadje Nieuwland (bij Amersfoort) alwaar het bruisende nachtleven weinig voorstelde: een klein centrum met een Jumbo, Kruidvat, twee snackbars en een NewYork Pizza, zodat in de mooie sporthal de tribune, zonder uitzichtbelemmerende hinderlijke pilaren (onze AmstelCampusHal!) toch nog redelijk gevuld was met zo'n 70 supporters van Eemland en één van US. Wat moet je er anders doen op zo'n avond?
Het team van Eemland bestond uit jonge, fanatieke en nogal wilde spelers die goed uit de startblokken schoten: stand na 6 minuten: 5 - 1. Tevens was het “de week van de scheidsrechters” en de heren in het paars (!) besloten een stevig stempel op de wedstrijd te drukken. Vanaf de derde minuut kwam het vrijwel niet meer voor dat beide teams volledig op de wedstrijdvloer stonden. Gevolg: eindeloos gehannes bij de wedstrijdtafel.
US moest duidelijk even wennen aan de sfeer, maar kwam toen, vooral door mooie doelpunten van Vincent, weer dichterbij en wist bij rust al een voorsprong van 10 - 11 te bemachtigen. In de tweede helft liep US zelfs uit tot een mooie 12 - 18 voorsprong, maar in een turbulente fase, die alles had wat een handbalwedstrijd leuk maakt (gemiste kansen, prachtige doelpunten, gefoeter op de arbitrage, met uiteraard uitsluitingen ten gevolg) was de stand met nog 12 minuten te spelen ineens weer 19 - 21.
Gelukkig bleek in deze fase US veel meer routine te hebben en met wat langere aanvallen en bekeken spel weer tot 19 - 24 uit te lopen, waarna Eemland het opgaf en US nog tot een eindstand van 20 - 28 kon uitlopen. Een mooie pot van US 1, waarin iedere speler een duidelijke bijdrage had in de overwinning. Vooral beide keepers verdienen een compliment, Dominic in de eerste en Jaap in de tweede helft deden het uitstekend.
Twee spelers haalden helaas het einde van de wedstrijd niet: Ralph (rode kaart) en Adrien (enkelblessure). Het wedstrijdformulier vermeldt ook nog: Aantal strafminuten: US: 14, Eemland: 22 (ai !).
In de mooie kantine van de sporthal werd de overwinning gevierd door de pils niet per fles maar per krat te bestellen! Eén nog volle krat werd op de terugweg in het Lebo busje geleegd onder gescandeer: “US Amsterdam - US Amsterdam”.

The first team gives top amusement in match against Eemland.
Theo drove the Lebo bus very good, and we reached the village of Nieuwland in time. The nightlife there was not so much (a small shopping mall with Jumbo, Kruidvat, two snackbars and a New York pizzeria. As a result the sportshall there was rather full with supporters, about 70 persons from Eemland and one from US Amsterdam.What else you can do on a saturday night in such a city?
The Eemland team was young, fanatic and rather wild and they begon very good: score after 6 minutes 5 - 1. Moreover it was “the week of the referees” and both gentlemen in purple decided to lay heavily their mark on the game. From already the thirth minute on, it was seldom that both teams were complete in the field. Result: endless trouble with the jury table with discussion about the score and the time. Our boys from US obviously needed some time to accomodate, but slowly and surely they came closer to Eemland, especially by the beautiful scores of Vincent. Score halfway: 10 - 11, so already one point ahead.
The second half started good and our boys run out to 12 - 18, nice ! But then, in a very turbulent period that brings everything that makes a handball match attractive (missing clear chances, beautiful goals, cursing and yelling at the referees, with, of course, time penalties) Eemland came again closer to US to 19 - 21. But our boys kept their heads clean, took some more time for the offence, and run again further away to 19 - 24. This brought the definite decision and finally the endscore of 20 - 28 was reached. A nice result of US and every player has made a relevant contribution. Especially both goal keepers deserve a compliment: Dominic (first half) and Jaap (second half) acted excellent.
Unfortunately two players did not reach the end of the match: Ralph (red card) and captain Adrien (foot injury). On the official match report you can read: Penalty minutes, US: 14, Eemland: 22 (ai !) In the nice sportshall cantina, after the match, the victory was celebrated by ordering the beers not per bottle but per bucket!!
One bucket was made empty in the Lebo bus on the way to Amsterdam, singing loud out: US-Amsterdam, US-Amsterdam.

Nothing can compete Herman ten Napel Games stories... But would be nice to mention beautiful win of H2, 24-25 Against HVOS. Don't ask me where we drove to - I will never learn the names of those small Dutch places, Even after playing here for 100 years or so.

Bunch of 12 sexy players and one awesome coach (guess who..) went south on this beautiful day.
We knew that we have to start strong, and that the defence will make the difference. And that was the game plan.
All in all we had some bad times and some good times during the first half. We were down to half time 14-15 behind, with great penalty saved by Mick in the last second.
The second half didn't start good, I must say. But with time went on, we managed to find our game and things got better and better as we got into money time.
Nice and easy we went up all the way to 21-25 about 3 minutes to the end. I guess we started to celebrate too early. The enemy came back with 3 goals, and they still had the last ball of the match. Luckily Jaap was focused enough to stop their last shot and secure the victory.
We had nice beers and snacks outside in the beautiful sun. We packed the 2 points in the bag and headed back happy to Amsterdam.
